Tele-Befriending
A
regular, friendly phone call from a trained volunteer befriender offering a listening ear and support.
Carers
may feel that they are having to cope with day to day
struggles all by themselves and can feel quite isolated by
their situation. The Tele-befriending Scheme offers regular
contact by telephone at a conveniently arranged time, either
weekly or fortnightly, from a trained assigned volunteer
befriender. It is a link for the carer to the outside world
and a safe place to off-load within a non-judgemental and
supportive relationship.

“ I have found that it has helped me cope in my role
as a carer to have someone to talk to, to have a
safe place to off-load and get things off my chest
when I need to as this doesn’t affect or put a
strain on my other relationships with family and
friends. Often we have a good laugh and I really
look forward to my weekly phone calls. Over the
months, we have got to know each other well.“ |
