Who
is a young Carer?
A
young carer is anyone under 21 who is looking after, or
helping to look after a family member who is suffering from
long term illness, disability, mental health issues or
substance misuse. They may do a range of caring tasks and
assume physical and emotional responsibilities normally
carried out by an adult
Making a
referral
Anyone can make a referral to
Young Carers’ Support as long as it is done with the young
persons’ permission. The service is free and confidential.
Once a referral is received the family will be contacted and
appropriate support offered to the young person.
